Mysteries of the Macabre (1978) combines arias for the character Gepopo from the opera Le Grand Macabre, a darkly comic exploration of the apocalypse and human folly. Gepopo, the overzealous chief of police, navigates the chaos as the end of the world looms, and in these excerpts, brings to life frenetic energy, grotesque humor, and absurd heroics in Gepopo's attempt to warn Prince Go-Go of the Macabre's imminent arrival without alarming the public.
